Myopia Management for Children

As children grow, their nearsightedness—or myopia—may increase as their eyes become longer. Myopia management aims to slow this progression while helping children see clearly.

At MSight Vision Eyecare, we offer personalized evaluations for Stellest spectacle lenses, MiSight and VTI soft contact lenses, Paragon CRT orthokeratology, and low-dose atropine. Our doctor considers your child’s prescription, eye health, lifestyle, and ability to follow treatment instructions when recommending a plan.

Essilor Stellest Eyeglass Lenses

Stellest lenses correct blurry distance vision while using a specialized lenslet design to create optical signals that help slow myopia progression.

These glasses may suit children who prefer eyeglasses or are not ready for contact lenses. Consistent wear during waking hours, as directed by the doctor, and regular follow-up visits are important. Some children may initially notice blur, halos, or an adjustment period.

MiSight and VTI Soft Contact Lenses

These lenses combine distance vision correction with specialized optical designs used in myopia management. Daily disposable lenses are worn during the day, removed before bedtime, and discarded after each use.

MiSight and VTI lenses have different designs, indications, and supporting evidence. Our doctor will explain these differences and assess which option may be appropriate for your child.

Children must follow proper handling and hygiene instructions. Contact lenses should never come into contact with tap water or be worn while swimming or sleeping unless specifically prescribed for overnight wear. Contact lens use carries a risk of corneal infection.

Paragon CRT Orthokeratology—or Ortho-K

Paragon CRT lenses are worn overnight to gently and temporarily reshape the cornea, helping children see clearly during the day with less dependence on glasses or daytime contact lenses.

Orthokeratology may also be considered as part of a myopia management plan. Its temporary vision-correction effect is distinct from its use to slow myopia progression. It does not permanently eliminate myopia; after stopping lens wear, the cornea gradually returns toward its original shape.

Fitting requires a careful assessment of corneal shape and eye health. Proper cleaning, consistent care, and follow-up visits are essential. Overnight lens wear carries a risk of corneal infection. Stop lens wear and contact your eye doctor promptly if pain, redness, light sensitivity, or reduced vision develops.

Low-Dose Atropine Eye Drops

Low-dose atropine may be considered to help slow myopia progression. It does not replace glasses or contact lenses needed for clear vision.

The doctor will individualize the concentration, dosing schedule, treatment duration, and discontinuation plan. Possible side effects include light sensitivity, blurred near vision, irritation, or an allergic reaction. Regular follow-up helps assess effectiveness and tolerability.
